Post Doctoral Associate
Med-Pathology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25006753)
Postdoctoral Researcher in developing human iPSC-derived models for blood stem cell biology.
Location: University of Pittsburgh, Department of Pathology, Pittsburgh, PA
Job Type: Full-time
Duration: One year (with the possibility of extension)
Application Deadline: Immediately
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh to investigate how iPSC-derived developmental model systems can be used to study stem cell function, expansion, and the mechanisms of cellular aging. The position offers the opportunity to integrate developmental biology, stem cell engineering, and hematopoietic research using advanced molecular and computational tools.
Key Responsibilities
Investigate the blood stem cell function and differentiation potential using in vitro and in vivo models.
Perform ex vivo expansion assays of the stem cells.
Conduct in vivo transplantation studies in immunodeficient mouse models to evaluate stem cell function, durability, and aging-related phenotypes.
Characterize the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms driving stem cell aging.
Utilize single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics, and ligandreceptor network analyses to dissect developmental and aging-related signaling pathways.
Perform flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, metabolic assays, and colony-forming assays to characterize stem cell states and lineage potential.
Collaborate with computational biologists to integrate transcriptomic and niche-signaling networks for mechanistic discovery.
Present research findings at scientific conferences and publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
Contribute to grant writing and mentoring trainees.
Qualifications and Requirements
Required:
Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent doctoral-level degree (e.g., Pharm.D., Sc.D.)
Strong research experience in stem cell biology
Hands-on expertise with advanced cell culture, including iPSC-derived models and human HSC assays.
Proficiency in flow cytometry, immunostaining, and molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, Western blotting, RNA-seq).
Excellent analytical skills and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative research environment.
Strong communication skills with a track record of peer-reviewed publications.
Benefits and Opportunities
Work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment at [Institution Name].
Access to state-of-the-art stem cell and imaging facilities.
Mentorship and support for career development, including grant writing and teaching opportunities.
